Our emotional self; forms part of the core of our being. It is that part of us that can be happy, sad, scared, hurt, or whatever feelings we have from to time to time. I call this the ‘little girl’ or ‘little boy’ inside each of us. It is your responsibility to ensure the emotional wellbeing of your children as they grow. This can be achieved through the following suggested steps:
Make your children to feel emotionally safe. Your children need to know and be reassured that they are loved and accepted for who they are. Acceptance is recognizing your children for who they are. Don’t live your lives through your children. Some parents want their children to go into the careers that they couldn’t achieve as a parent. For example, some parents want their children to go to medical school, which they as parents couldn’t achieve when they were the same age as their children. As your children grow, they will understand the feelings you have for them and it will be excellent for them to know that they are loved and accepted for who they are and not because of their careers.
